Along with Erasmus's On Free Will, Martin Luther's On the Bondage of the Will is one of Christian literature’s great classics. In this 16th century work, Luther claims that Erasmus’s argument of free will’s existence is not valid due to an overwhelming influence of sin. On the Bondage of the Will is a fascinating glimpse into not only one of the most recognized minds of Europe’s sixteenth century thinking men, but also the daily religious challenges many Europeans faced during the early Reformation period.

This book will definitely grant some clarity on the conditions of our salvation. I absolutely love this book. Luther clears up beyond question that we are all "freely justified by grace"...Luther's theological ideas were and still are revolutionary. Many believers struggles with the realities of trying to measure up with the gospel. But the truth is we can never do anything to earn our salvation or please God through works. Even our greatest humanitarian and ethical endeavors are unworthy in the eyes of God because our most deepest and hidden motives are often unknown without the aid of the Spirit of God. "There is no difference...we all fall short of the glory of God." This book will definitely produce a greater understanding of who we are and will in turn pour much needed humility into our heart.

Excellent, readable abridgment of one of Luther's classic works. Of course the popular christian idea that man has "free will" is challenged by Luther's principle that scripture trumps logic and personal experience. This is a good read.
This is a must read, this abridged chapter will get show you arguments based on Scripture, mainly from the Gospel of John and Romans. Martin Luther debates against Erasmus of Rotterdam, and proves there is no such thing as free will.
Luther's magnum opus, a concise and brilliant response to Erasmus's "wordy" reply to the budding reformation. Luther forcefully and authoritatively demonstrates man's inability to come to God by his own will, being in bondage to sin through and after the fall of Adam. Few books can claim to cover the subject half as well.
This is a great little booklet to give out to friends and family, who may be steeped in the false doctrine of freewill, this short except from Luther's great volume The Bomdage of the Will ,kicks the legs out from under the freewill position . l recommend the full volume by Prybyterian
If you're interested in learning from Luther get this. I love all this man did, and the boldness he had. This is a great resource and one that you need if you want to be introduced to Reformed theology or grow deeper in your understanding of man's sinful heart.
Free Will is an illusion. Some people think they have the power to choose God. But many will say that God offers the sacrifice all we have to do is take it. We want so badly to have some part in our salvation. We don't.
Luther's thinking is well recorded here. Yes, you will understand his meaning of "Free Will" if that is important to you. I am enjoying this read.
